Brief Bio

Philippe Hinsinger has close to 30-year experience in rhizosphere biogeochemistry and plant nutrition. He obtained his MSc (DAA) in Soil Science and his PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Montpellier, now called Montpellier SupAgro in France. He spent 2 years at Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) during his PhD on the fate of potassium in the rhizosphere with Prof. Joseph E. Dufey. He spent a 2-yr postdoc at the University of Western Australia, in Perth with Prof. Robert J. Gilkes, working on the National Research Programme on Rock Phosphates.

He was appointed as Chargé de Recherche at INRA Montpellier in 1991, and worked on the mechanisms determining the bioavailability to higher plants of phosphorus and trace elements, especially copper.

Research interest

He is currently working at UMR Eco&Sols as Directeur de Recherche and is also Deputy-Head of this research group and of the Doctoral School SIBAGHE / GAIA.

His main interest is to contribute improving nutrient acquisition efficiency in low input agroecosystems, based on making better use of plant diversity (best performing genotypes, intercropping and agroforestry systems), and especially below-ground functional traits (rhizosphere-related).
